Why do you do, what you do?

When you see the look on a business owners face when they reach that “Aha!” moment, it’s exciting. It’s not something I did, it’s something they did, and they know it. I supply the tools, but they climbed the mountain. I look for that moment in every coaching session. That is the juice that keep me doing what I do, to know that they are getting the results they want based on the passion and commitment they bring to the table. I help them with a new perspective to their business model

What’s the one thing you wish you could go back and tell your younger self?

I’ve gone through this mental scenario a hundred times! I would say two things. First, fear nothing. Don’t waste time and energy being afraid. Just roll up your sleeves and get in there and keep moving until you reach your goal. Once you get to the other side you’ll look back and say that was easy! What’s next! Fear holds everyone back, especially when we’re younger. And secondly, don’t screw around. I spent too much time on bullshit that didn’t matter or was not what I should have been focusing on. To stay focused is a skill, like riding a bike or learning a different language. You have to get good at it. Once you are skilled, nothing will steer you from what you want to accomplish.

What’s the most important piece of advice would you give to someone just starting?

Trust yourself. If you know what you want, go get it, and let no one stand in your way. Go over them, around them, or through them if you have to, but stop at nothing. Also, prepare yourself mentally for the battle. I talk about Business Gladiators because you’re going to have dark days when your mind starts playing tricks on you. “Why are you doing this?” “Listen to your mom.” “They can, but you can’t.” All this inner talk is just mental programming you’ve heard. It’s not true. And lastly, find a coach or a mentor you can trust. Someone to help you with your journey, someone who’s “been there, done that.” That person will be your life line.

What is the hardest thing you have had to do regarding your business?

Reprogram myself. We are so bombarded with what we see, hear and experience and it’s usually aimed at ways to keep us from achieving our dreams. Dancing With The Stars, news media, negative people, all these things are created to pull you further away. The greatest entrepreneurs in the World, Ray Kroc, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs to name a few, all knew what it took reprogram themselves. This starts with changing how you think. That alone is a 20 page answer, but basically, you have to stop thinking what your thinking about and start thinking and feeling how it’s going to be when you achieve your goals.

If you were to start again, and could change one thing, what would it be?

Find a good mentor and trust in their process. I’m not saying that because I’m a business coach, I truly believe that we are so inundated with information that it muddies up the true message of what we need to do to achieve our goals. Now, a mentor is like a guide, they change as your journey changes. You have to know when your training is over and take the next step and find the next guide. That new guide must be qualified to take you through the next phase of your entrepreneurial journey. I have had several mentors and coaches and they all have taught me something different. But as my knowledge grows, I reach out to a new guides and trust in their process.

What is the most important thing in life?

My wife, she’s my biggest fan. Marriage is a different kind of journey, but the same message applies. You need a partner who is going to take that journey with you and be 100% supportive or you’ll never make it. My wife is the daughter of a Marine. Need I say more. Then comes my two dogs, Ava and Hanna. They are hilarious and they keep me in the “now.” Trusting in a Universal Force that I can’t see keeps me connected to everything around me. I believe that helping people is a gift and I want to see business owners truly achieve their dreams without financial struggle.

What is one problem you encountered as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

Mindset. I think most entrepreneurs dismiss mindset because they don’t really understand it. I didn’t. But mastering mindset is truly believing in yourself with no obstacles. I have studied all aspects of the mind since I was a teenager, from visualization to priming and I’m still learning new things about myself and ways to overcome my mindset. If you truly want to be a great entrepreneur, you must first master yourself.
