Josh McDaniels began coaching as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University. He joined the NFL as the New England Patriots’ personal assistant in 2001 and eventually held positions as offensive, defensive, and quarterback coach with the franchise before his promotion to offensive coordinator. Leading the offense to record-breaking scoring during his first two years in the position, McDaniels signed as head coach for the Denver Broncos in 2009. However, a videotaping scandal led to his firing. Although he was not involved in the incident, the Broncos found his failure to report it cause for release. He returned to New England in 2012, which resulted in three Super Bowl championships between 2012 and 2021.
