Dr. Susie Alegre is a human rights lawyer and pioneer in the field of digital rights. She is the author of “Freedom to Think: Protecting a Fundamental Human Right in the Digital Age”(Atlantic Books 2022), a Book of the Year 2022 in the Financial Times and The Daily Telegraph.
With over 25 years experience as an international human rights lawyer working on some of the most intractable issues of our time including human rights in the war on terror for the OSCE, combating corruption in East Africa, the human rights implications of climate change and ensuring fairness in access to finance, she brings a wide range of practical experience to her insights on the impact of technology on the human future. She is an Associate at Doughty Street Chambers and a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), a member of the UK Information Commissioner’s Office Technology Advisory Panel and holds judicial and quasi-judicial roles in the UK and internationally.
Originally from the Isle of Man, Susie is the Founder and Director of the Island Rights Initiative, combining her experience of international law with her understanding of small island life.
