Paddy Lowe is a highly accomplished engineer and technical director with a distinguished career in Formula 1. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1984 and began his career as a control systems engineer before joining Williams Grand Prix Engineering. There, he helped develop championship-winning cars and pioneered the development of ground-breaking technologies such as Active Suspension and Traction Control systems.
Lowe later joined McLaren, where he became Technical Director and achieved multiple championship successes over a 20-year period. He then served as Executive Director and Board Member for the Mercedes F1 team, overseeing the team’s quality transformation and helping to establish their subsequent dominance.
After returning to Williams as Chief Technical Officer, Paddy developed a strong interest in helping the sport deliver its environmental sustainability targets. This led him to establish Zero Petroleum, a synthetic fuel company focused on reducing carbon emissions in motorsport.
Paddy Lowe is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. His accomplishments in F1 have led to him winning multiple awards, including the Technical Director of the Year Award and the Sir Jackie Stewart Trophy, while his designs have won the Racing Car of the Year Award on 10 occasions.
