About Nisha
Keynote
Nisha Pillai is an accomplished former news presenter with BBC World News who now specialises in moderating panel discussions and high-level dialogues alongside hosting events and conferences. She has worked closely with several UN agencies, academic institutions like CERN, and a long list of global corporates. Nisha has among others recently worked with Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations, in moderating at the annual conference of the Global Humanitarian Forum.
Nisha’s 25 year career at the BBC with delivering breaking news culminated, when she appeared as one of the main news anchors at BBC World News, where she reported extensively during the 9/11 attacks and the Iraq war. She was also one of the first regular interviewers on Hard Talk. As an award-winning investigative journalist at ‘Panorama’, the BBC’s flagship current affairs programme, Nisha had notable investigations to her name. She appeared as a cutthroat financial journalist on the BBC’s Money Programme and at the Investors Chronicle. Her educational background includes attending a girls school in the UK before studying economics at the London School of Economics.
Recent work:
– CERN: moderating a staged event at CERN about particle and astro physics – with live links to other research institues across Europe. September 2014.
– The launch of the World Energy Outlook in Vienna, November 2014.
– Chocovision – in Davos, a biannual event bringing together the chocolate value chain from chocolate makers all the way through to cocoa farmers to discuss sustainable production. I moderated the event in 2012 and will again be doing so in 2014.
– Planet under Pressure – a massive science conference (feeding into the Rio + 20 Climate Conference in 2012). There were 3,000 scientists present at the Excel centre; a further 3,000 joining us on-line via the live stream; extensive use of Twitter to connect the audience to the panellists
– For the Norwegian government, moderating the global dialogue on Energy, feeding into the UN sustainable development goals consultation.
