Facts for a Brighter Future

In this captivating keynote, Dr. DeArmitt, the leading independent expert on plastics and the environment, dispels myths we’ve all seen on the internet by presenting solid peer-reviewed scientific evidence. See the facts, dispel fiction and hear how to fix our problems for a brighter future. The only talk to cover materials use, waste, litter, degradation, microplastics, ocean plastic and more! Dr. DeArmitt shows how the evidence leads to solutions and policies that actually work.

  • Plastics make up ~1% of materials and waste
  • Life cycle studies show plastic is usually the least impactful option
  • Plastics reduce fossil fuel and GHG emissions
  • Ocean plastic quantities are ~1000x less than claimed and not increasing
  • Not a significant threat to turtles, whales or birds
  • Microplastics make up 0.001% of dust we ingest and are as safe as clay or cellulose
  • BPA, PFOA/PFAS “forever chemicals”, NIAS, phthalates, stabilizers, migration and more!

The keynote talk amazes and delights audiences with utterly unique and compelling content. Surveys show that plastics industry workers are ashamed of their jobs, but after seeing the evidence they are proud and remotivated. Each keynote can be customized to your needs and included 10 signed hardcover copies of The Plastics Paradox book.

Unique & Comprehensive Facts About Microplastics

The world has been gripped by microplastic hysteria but what are the facts? Are the scary stories all true or is there more to it? Since publishing The Plastics Paradox, this one topic has attracted more attention and concern than any other. Fear of the unknown is natural and there is a general belief that microplastics are new, representing an untested and unquantified threat to our health. I looked to see what we know and it turns out that the science is done. We have decades of data and the answers are known. In this microplastics keynote Dr. DeArmitt explains every topic in layperson’s language.

  • What are the sources?
  • What kinds of microplastic are there?
  • How much is there in the environment?
  • Exposure of humans, animals, aquatic and marine life to microplastic
  • How do they compare to the many other kinds of particle we are exposed to daily?
  • Are we in real danger from microplastics?
  • Can we and should we reduce our exposure?
  • Can we depend on the media for reliable information information on microplastics?

Dr. DeArmitt is probably the leading independent expert on microplastics having read hundreds of peer-reviewed studies. Other “experts” gain notoriety by frightening the public with junk science. Dr. DeArmitt digs deeper, exposing the fake science and debunking myths with facts, logic and humor.

The microplastics keynote covers amounts, types, exposure and health effects on humans and animals. It also explains how they are formed and what they degrade into. If you have customers, regulators and other stakeholders asking tough questions and don’t want to spend a fortune doing studies, then this talk has all the facts you need!

Each keynote can be customized to your needs and included 10 signed hardcover copies of The Plastics Paradox book.

Steven Pacitti

The expectations were high, when Chris entered the virtual stage on direct link from Cincinatti, US at the opening day of the 12th edition of Plastteknik Nordic 2023, in Malmö 10th of May, the most significant plastics fair in the Nordic countries. For thirty minutes he spellbound the biggest audience of the day, with well over hundred persons, with his comprehensive scientific research on plastic materials and the environment.

Per-Stefan Gersbro

Chris spoke at our association's semi-annual meeting in 2022, and it was one of the best presentations I've ever seen. He was very comfortable with the space and the audience, spoke in a down-to-earth manner, and his slides were well designed, easy to follow, and informative. For this customized presentation, Chris collected data that is specific to our industry and prepared graphs to help convey that data easily.

Lance MacNevin

He participated as a digital keynote, and we had a live broadcast from Cincinnati, US, to Malmö, Sweden. With his professionalism and expertise, he has drawn a large audience to his presentation. He engaged the audience to a very high degree, which is often difficult when broadcasting digitally, but this was no problem for Chris - not only was he highly appreciated by the audience as one of the best plastic materials experts in the world, but also for his very strong presence during his presentation.

Mahtab Karimi

Chris is a passionate, no-nonense and motivating speaker. Not afraid to stick his head above the parapet and challenge established mantras with incisive, fact-based evidence, Chris naturally engages audiences and interviewers alike. Never short of a witty quip, Chris opens people’s eyes and dares them to think differently…

Tony Harrison

After hearing Dr. DeArmitt present I have seen overwhelming evidence that we have been misled into making policies proven to increase harm to the environment. By conducting the first comprehensive review of the science on materials use, waste generation, litter causes, microplastics, ocean plastics and degradation his work sets the foundation for sensible policies that will actually have a positive impact. As a scientist myself, I know how important it is to case decisions on solid data.
