Founded in the belief that people learn best by doing our "Putting Data to Work(shop)" it takes a collaborative and empowering approach to guide organizations through uncovering insights from their data. Data is one of the best tools organizations have for transformation yet is rarely put to its full use.
This workshop is designed to encourage data exploration and curiosity at all levels, making data more approachable and likely to be used in planning. By involving staff in the meaning-making process, organizations can not only leverage their unique insights and perspectives but also foster a culture of data-informed decision-making, where staff are empowered to use data to inform their work. Additionally, staff who collect data are often better positioned to identify practical applications or implications of the findings within their specific contexts or areas of work. By emphasizing our workshop's collaborative and empowering approach, we can assure participants that the goal is not to scrutinize or criticize but rather to harness their insights for positive organizational change.
During the session, participants first answer a series of questions alone to avoid groupthink and unlock their authentic knowledge before discussing observations and trends with peers; this ensures all perspectives are considered and makes it easier for the group to come to a consensus. Participants then discuss factors that could impact their action plan and the level of effort needed before determining an area of focus. Ultimately, participants leave the workshop equipped not only with an action plan but also with a clear sense of accountability.
By providing a structured approach to data-informed planning and decision-making, our workshop sets organizations on a path to tangible, sustainable progress, driven by the power of data and the collective wisdom of their teams.
Learning Objectives
Fosters a culture of data-informed decision-making, where staff at all levels are empowered to use data to inform their work and drive positive organizational change
Develop skills in collaborative data exploration and analysis, by having participants work together to uncover insights and observations from data while considering diverse perspectives
Design action plans based on data
Too often evaluation happens to an organization and results are rarely seen or acted upon. Join Back of the Napkin Consulting to engage in virtual, innovative ways to ensure those most impacted by evaluation outputs are part of the process every step of the way.
Objectives:
Experience activities to engage those impacted by the evaluation process
Experience how to create emotionally safe environments based in trust
Learn methods to involve diverse audiences in data sense-making and strategy design
This dynamic workshop serves up fresh recipes for building evaluation capacity that your staff will actually crave. Through playful activities like 'No More Tears Logic Models,' 'Data Detective,' 'Soapie Clean Data Awards,' and 'Data Parties,' you'll discover how to transform data collection into a fun part of organizational culture.. Walk away with practical tools and strategies that make evaluation not just digestible, but delicious – creating a culture where everyone, from data champions to data-doubters, comes back for seconds.
Focussing on logic models, infusing data into org infrastructure (and/or data collection), and data hygiene you will leave this session with a toolbox brimming with ready-to-implement ideas.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
In today's complex social impact landscape, organizations need powerful tools to translate vision into tangible results. Logic Models provide a strategic framework that bridges aspirational goals with practical implementation, allowing teams to:
By visualizing the connections between resources, activities, outputs, and long-term outcomes, Logic Models transform abstract intentions into concrete, actionable plans that drive real-world change.
Our workshop will guide you in developing a dynamic, collaborative Logic Model that captures your organization's unique theory of change.
This hands-on workshop equips participants with frameworks and techniques to deeply understand the diverse data needs of different internal and external stakeholders. Through stakeholder mapping and use case analysis, attendees will learn how to tailor data communications plans that resonate with end users. The session also covers data visualization best practices, with tools and exercises to create products customized for clarity and relevance per stakeholder persona. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a roadmap to implement stakeholder-driven data strategies using the right blend of data presentation, messaging, and training.
Learning Objectives
Understand the different stakeholder groups and their varying data needs
Learn techniques to identify specific data requirements per stakeholder group

How can evaluators make creating and operationalizing logic models fun, inclusive, interactive, and equitable? In this workshop, participants will learn a new, participatory way to develop logic models, and
techniques learned can be applied across the entire evaluation cycle. They will be encouraged to think creatively to ensure that organizations build logic models to mitigate power dynamics, that all voices are heard, and that final products are used. Using the Lego®Serious Play®(LSP) method, participants will build outcomes and activities using Lego® bricks and connect them in an "if, then" framework that results in a three-dimensional relational diagram. Participants will learn new techniques to engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue, stimulate creativity and innovation, foster reflection and sensemaking, build consensus, and enhance the validity and reliability of evaluation data. By incorporating LSP into their toolkit, evaluators can unlock new possibilities for conducting participatory, inclusive, and impactful evaluations.
Learning Objectives
Describe the benefits of creative, tactile methods for logic model design & facilitation.
Extrapolate meaning and distill themes from multiple viewpoints
Perform a gap analysis on logic model systems to ensure all items relate
