When the Rotherham born goalkeeper retired from the game in 2004, (due to a recurring shoulder injury), he had won 75 England caps, making him the second most capped keeper after the legendary Pete Shilton. He was England’s number one keeper at the 1998 and 2002 World Cup finals, and was in the squad at the 1990 World Cup finals. He began his playing career when he joined Peterborough in 1992. He also played for Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers before Manager George Graham took him to Arsenal.

He then went on to make 26 league and cup appearances for Manchester City before hanging up his boots and gloves. In 2006 David appeared on the popular ITV show, Dancing on Ice where he came fourth. The skating bug has not left him, and he still regularly takes to the ice to hone his skills. When not on the ice or assisting with coaching at Arsenal he enjoys shooting and other country pursuits.
