The talk helps the audience to understand how people with disabilities encounter prejudice and discrimination in society. Additionally, it offers potential solutions to combatting Ableism and promoting inclusion of persons with disabilities in Norway. This TedX talk is based on my PhD research and lived perspectives as a blind professional living and working in Norway.
In this talk, I explain need for creation of open, inclusive and accessible labor market where all individuals who are willing and able to participate get an equal opportunity to find and retain employment. The talk helps the audience to understand the different employment barriers encountered by persons with disabilities, in particular I focus on the barrier of Ableism and its negative impacts on the employment exclusion for persons with disabilities. This talk is based on my comparative findings from my PhD research.
In this talk, I focus on the significance of universal design, inclusive technologies and accessible environments to overcome Ableism and promote inclusion. The talk helps the audience to understand the accessibility, environmental and attitudinal barriers encountered by persons with disabilities. It highlights how the ideas linked to universal design standards, human centred design principles, accessibility norms and inclusive technologies can promote disability inclusion. This talk is based on comparative findings of my PhD research and lived perspectives as a blind professional who uses screen readers.
In this talk, I explain the significance of work for youth with disabilities and the negative impact of their employment exclusion on the society and the welfare state. The talk helps the audience to understand the prevailing employment landscape, employment barriers encountered by youth with disabilities. Additionally, it highlights the coping, adaptive and transformative capacities employed by youth with disabilities to find and retain employment. This talk is based on comparative findings from my research and my lived perspectives of working in Norway, the United States and India.
