Henrik Wahlström is passionate about contributing to a more inclusive society where it is okay to talk openly about mental illness. He pursues this through his campaign Uppochner, as an ambassador for Mind, and through lectures. He is also careful to describe his experiences with bipolar disorder as something he lives with – not something he suffers from. He emphasizes that he has managed to create a good life despite his chronic illness and believes that more people can achieve the same through communication and a healthier perspective on mental illness – at home, in the workplace, and in society at large.
He has lectured for municipalities, media companies, churches, universities, student unions, and more. As a speaker, he has no difficulty adapting his presentation and content to the audience, whether it involves students, seniors, or management teams.
Henrik has also been invited to participate in several radio and television programs, such as Nyhetsmorgon. He has appeared on numerous podcasts and has been interviewed by newspapers, including Chef, Sydsvenskan, and Modern Psykologi. He has been featured as the Profile of the Month in MåBra and has won the “Net Angel of the Month” award.
Together with psychiatrist Katrin Skogberg Wirén, Henrik has written the book Upp och Ner, which is published by Bonnier Fakta.
However, his passion for spreading information and fostering acceptance around mental illness is not his only focus. His aim is, in fact, to show that a chronic illness does not have to define your life. His Instagram, for instance, features reflections on equality, humor, and what he himself calls “nonsense.”
