Speaker John Foley is a former lead solo pilot of the Blue Angels, a Sloan Fellow at Stanford School of Business, a gratitude guru, and an expert on managing high-performance teams successfully. His both exciting and rare journey inspires awe, triggering audiences to take action and to rethink what they believe is possible. John Foley employs intense realities as a metaphor to motivate teams and individuals to reach their highest potential while empowering organizations to also sustain excellence under dynamic change. His post-Naval experiences as an entrepreneur and a Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business placed him in a unique position to reverse-engineer the culture of excellence and teamwork found in the Blue Angels. He created a framework and mythology for leadership, inspiring others while propelling others on their journey toward Higher Performance.
John Foley graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was also a defensive back for the Midshipmen, playing in two bowl games and helping Navy to one of the best four-year records in its football history. As a pilot, he was a “Top Ten Carrier Pilot” six times before becoming a Marine instructor pilot and a Blue Angel.
Glad to be here – is simply the Ethos way of living combined with the operation of excellence – takes teams to the next level – it connects, aligns, and commits an organization opening up its communication line.

Audience takeaways:
I have been in the healthcare business for 44 years, and I have had the privilege during that time to see many speakers. As a result, fulfilling my “speaker expectations” can be a real challenge. Yet, I came away from your keynote address at our all-hands meeting completely mesmerized, entertained, energized, and inspired by both the substance of your message and the way in which you delivered it.

Your key note speech was bar none the best our system has ever had and delivered an inspiring message of team work, trust, accountability, and gratitude that resonated with everyone in the audience. Since our event, I have received incredibly positive feedback from our attendees, which included leaders and staff from across the CHS health system as well as our entire executive leadership cabinet, Board members and our Chief Executive Officer!

Mr. Foley spoke about building a culture of excellence, and an environment of trust. About building a safe place where leaders, staff and physicians can own, and learn from, their mistakes. He spoke in ways that made sense to everyone about how our organization can elevate high reliability to an entirely new level.
