In this talk, Kristian will present an approach to connecting humans with the intelligent systems that serve them using the tool that is most natural to us, language. We will look at how Intelligent Generation can play the crucial role of bridging the gap between the world of numbers and symbols and our need for understandable insights. We will dive into examples from business, education and everyday life to show how the power of language can provide us all with the insights that are still trapped in the wealth of data we now control.

Over the past ten years we have seen a dramatic rise in the use of data, its analysis and, most recently Artificial Intelligence. The trend is not just for academics or researchers. It is a movement of these technologies into the enterprise. As more data become available and the tools that can be used to derive meaning from them become more sophisticated, the disruption to the work force of tomorrow is inevitable.  Amplifying this are the improvements and commoditization of AI that make it clear that technology is going to enter every aspect of the modern workplace. 

At the same time, the newest wave of workers, the Millennials, have developed a preference for a style of work that is radically different than the “company man” approach taken by their parents. Their work dynamic is focused on issues of flexibility, change, emotional satisfaction and quality of life. Ironically, they are embracing the values that their parents often espoused but never actualized.

The confluence of these two forces, the rising tide of automation and the move away from life-long careers, is creating an environment in which change is the new constant. Of course, this leads to the question:  How do we educate students to deal with a future of constant and rapid change?  How do we train them to work most effectively in the agile mode that they demand? And how do we teach them to function in a world in which their current skills may very well be innovated into irrelevancy as intelligent systems and automation march forward?

In this talk, we will look at a new model work and technology integration based on a flexible approach using tasks, teams and partnerships.

• Tasks that acknowledge that there is no longer a one-to-one mapping between fixed jobs and what needs to be done.
• Teams that are formed around the task to be accomplished and the skills that are needed to do so.
• Partnerships that include the integration of both human and machine skill sets coordinated into a team effort.

We will focus on the cross-functional approach that leads to an effective use of resources that is aimed at optimizing staff satisfaction and career development.

As the different technologies emerge and rapidly are adopted, we have had barely enough time to understand what they can do, let alone evaluate the questions associated with their impact. 

In this talk, we will explore an approach to the study of the impact of these technologies and how they can be tested, evaluated, and regulated. We will consider the impact on business, our relationship with the machine, and how new need to plan our future from a human-centric perspective as we build the machines and systems that will serve us.

The module will be broken into eight sessions. Within each session, we will present the central ideas and examples followed by short interactive exercises. 

ChatGPT and large language models (LLMs) are changing the way we look at information access and language generation. In particular, ChatGPT has caused an explosion of interest and concern regarding how AI is going to transform the Law at all levels.

Technology providers, corporate legal departments, and law firms are already experimenting with, and in some cases using, automatic language generation tools for drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts, drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs, crafting persuasive arguments tailored for specific courts and judges, communicating legal guidance to individuals, and more. Mixed into this interest is concern over the effectiveness of these technologies, the skills needed to use them, and what new disruptive companies in the legal tech space will emerge.

How are these technologies going to impact legal-services delivery and how can law firms utilize their strengths while avoiding their weaknesses?

This class addresses these questions in a one-day workshop that looks at the realities of these technologies and provides law firms with what they need to make use of them. The workshop will explore the impact of ChatGPT, how to use and manage it, and examining the tools, applications, and opportunities it provides. It will introduce non-technical users to this technology as well as the wider eco-system of Artificial Intelligence that is in play today that is defining the future of legal services.
