Keynote by Kristian Hammond: Generative AI in the Enterprise: Managing the Enterprise Deployment of Generative Systems

Artificial intelligence technologies of Generative AI, entering the enterprise, yet companies struggle to understand how to use these solutions to meet their needs. There is a gap between business needs and what these systems do. As a result, there is a confusion in the marketplace has arisen from a lack of well-articulated explanations of where these technologies add true value within a business.

We wil look at the range of possibilities including Generative models, RAG, Agentic AI, and how to integrate into existing information and data infrastructures. We will present a quantitative method, involving the metrics of data, task and volume for identifying areas within an organization ripe for the application of AI technologies.

The focus of this process is on business needs rather than technology hype. The goal is an approach to technology adoption that serves the enterprise.

Keynote by Kristian Hammond: AI in the Enterprise: Understanding & Managing the Impact of Intelligent systems

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming business in a way that no other set of technologies ever have. Technologies of machine learning, text analysis, recommendation, and natural language processing are all being applied to business problems, yet most companies still struggle to understand how to use them to genuinely meet their needs.

There is a gap between our ability to articulate our business needs and our functional understanding of what these systems do. As a result, there is a confusion in the marketplace as to the true value and use of these technologies within our businesses.

In this talk, we will look at the current eco-system of intelligent technologies and unpack at functional view of what they do and what they do for us. We will then outline a method aimed at identifying areas within an organization that are ripe for the application of these technologies. We will suggest a scalable process for identifying artificial intelligence opportunities and an approach to technology adoption that serves the enterprise.

Keynote by Kristian Hammond: Humanizing the Machine with Language: How the Future Gets Written

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the world in ways that no other set of technologies ever have. Technologies of machine learning, text analysis, recommendation, and natural language processing are all being applied to a wide variety of problems and yet most of us still struggle to understand what their results mean or even the numbers behind them.

The numbers alone simply do not provide us with what we really need: information and insight. The data and the algorithms are only the first step in finding the insights we want and making them useful to the decision makers who need them.

In this talk, Kristian will present an approach to connecting humans with the intelligent systems that serve them using the tool that is most natural to us, language. We will look at how Intelligent Generation can play the crucial role of bridging the gap between the world of numbers and symbols and our need for understandable insights. We will dive into examples from business, education and everyday life to show how the power of language can provide us all with the insights that are still trapped in the wealth of data we now control.

Keynote by Kristian Hammond: Work, Data & AI: Training the Workforce of the Future

Over the past ten years we have seen a dramatic rise in the use of data, its analysis and, most recently Artificial Intelligence. The trend is not just for academics or researchers. It is a movement of these technologies into the enterprise. As more data become available and the tools that can be used to derive meaning from them become more sophisticated, the disruption to the work force of tomorrow is inevitable.  Amplifying this are the improvements and commoditization of AI that make it clear that technology is going to enter every aspect of the modern workplace.

At the same time, the newest wave of workers, the Millennials, have developed a preference for a style of work that is radically different than the “company man” approach taken by their parents. Their work dynamic is focused on issues of flexibility, change, emotional satisfaction and quality of life. Ironically, they are embracing the values that their parents often espoused but never actualized.

The confluence of these two forces, the rising tide of automation and the move away from life-long careers, is creating an environment in which change is the new constant. Of course, this leads to the question:  How do we educate students to deal with a future of constant and rapid change?  How do we train them to work most effectively in the agile mode that they demand? And how do we teach them to function in a world in which their current skills may very well be innovated into irrelevancy as intelligent systems and automation march forward?

In this talk, we will look at a new model work and technology integration based on a flexible approach using tasks, teams and partnerships.

  • Tasks that acknowledge that there is no longer a one-to-one mapping between fixed jobs and what needs to be done.
  • Teams that are formed around the task to be accomplished and the skills that are needed to do so.
  • Partnerships that include the integration of both human and machine skill sets coordinated into a team effort.

We will focus on the cross-functional approach that leads to an effective use of resources that is aimed at optimizing staff satisfaction and career development.

Keynote by Kristian Hammond: The Impact of AI: Practical and Ethical Issues

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are having an astounding impact on the way we function in the digital world. And these technologies are part of a larger trend towards an ever-growing digital transformation. These technologies, combined with other computational enhancements such as the rise of Internet of Things, the continuous tracking technologies of GPS, face and voice recognition, and always on connectivity, are having unprecedented impact. Together, they are transforming the world at an ever-increasing pace.

In many areas, these technologies are moving faster than our efforts to understand them and their implications. With issues of security, fairness, privacy, bias, and performance, we have only begun to explore the problem of how to test, evaluate and manage these technologies with regard to how they impact human health and safety.

As the different technologies emerge and rapidly are adopted, we have had barely enough time to understand what they can do, let alone evaluate the questions associated with their impact.

In this talk, we will explore an approach to the study of the impact of these technologies and how they can be tested, evaluated, and regulated. We will consider the impact on business, our relationship with the machine, and how new need to plan our future from a human-centric perspective as we build the machines and systems that will serve us.

Keynote by Kristian Hammond: Exploring the Use & Business Applications AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping numerous industries. From predictive analytics, speech and image recognition, recommendation systems, and now generative AI, companies are faced with the challenge of applying these technologies to their businesses and exploiting the opportunities that they provide.

In this module, we will explore the AI landscape and how the different technologies can impact your business, workflow, and people. We will look at these technologies from the perspective of the functional role that they play and work through how to use them for specific use cases. We will also discuss the risks associated with each technology and its use and how to establish a culture of safety and ethical use of these technologies.

At the core of this is an examination of how to answer the four questions that you need to ask when considering new technologies:

  • What does it do?
  • What can it do for you?
  • What does it need?
  • What are the risks?

One of the most impactful developments in this landscape has been the rise of generative AI systems such as ChatGPT. Powered by a unique blend of machine learning and natural language processing capabilities, ChatGPT has emerged as a transformative technology that has redefined the realm of human-computer interaction.

We will navigate how ChatGPT can be deployed, demonstrating its potential across sectors such as customer service, education, healthcare, and content creation. Participants will gain insights into how this technology can be tailored to meet individual requirements, thereby enhancing efficiency, productivity, and decision-making capabilities. We will also discuss the concerns to keep in mind when integrating ChatGPT into workflows and products. We will address ethical considerations, data privacy, and model training limitations to ensure you make informed decisions that align with your specific needs and values.

The module will be broken into eight sessions. Within each session, we will present the central ideas and examples followed by short interactive exercises.
