About Lars
Keynote
Lars Løkke speaks about his life in politics, offering a unique insight into his many years on the Danish political stage, addressing questions of what ideals drove him and what results he achieved. He also talks about his experiences with the media and about his current position in politics. In Denmark Løkke is well-known for his cheerful and relaxed attitude, mixed with a jovial sense of humour, and he is almost sure to share fun and quirky behind-the-scenes stories that somehow managed to evade the media for years.
When he was 17, Lars Løkke joined Danish political party Venstre and at the age of just 22 he became country chairman for its youth organisation, Venstres Ungdom. In 1994 he became a member of the Danish parliament and then went on to hold a number of important positions such as Minister of Health (2001-2007), Minister of Finance (2007-2009), Chairman of Venstre (2009-2019) and, of course, Danish prime minister twice (2009-2011 and 2015-2019). During his political career, Lars Løkke played a central role within various reform programs, among others he was in charge of a structural reform that resulted in the aggregation of municipalities and the termination of counties which instead were replaced with five regions.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen is cand. jur., master of law, from the university of Copenhagen and is the author of Hvis jeg bli’r gammel – en ældrepolitisk debatbog (1997) and co-author of Foreningshåndbogen (1994). Moreover, he is the subject of Løkkeland – Lars Løkke Rasmussens Danmark by Kirsten Jacobsen (2006), I orkanens øje – samtaler med Lars Løkke Rasmussen by Thomas Larsen (2010) and Befrielsens øjeblik – samtaler med Lars Løkke Rasmussen by Kirsten Jacobsen (2019).
