Keynote by speaker Mark Schulman: Songwriting Workshop

It’s your turn…are you ready to ROCK? Mark breaks people into random groups and gives each group a package. The package contains lyrics to one of four famous songs. The goal is for each group to re-write the lyrics to the song they’ve been given, drawing on work and life experiences and incorporating as much humor and irony as they can muster. Each group then takes the stage to perform their creation, with the new lyrics on the big screen for all the other groups to see! The goal is to have as much fun as possible and learn something about teamwork, collaboration, innovation, creativity, and leadership in the process.

Mark Schulman has been a sought-after drummer in rock and pop for over 32 years. He was recognized as one of the “Top 3 Pop-Rock Drummers” in the 2014 Modern Drummer Readers Poll and featured on the cover of Modern Drummer in May 2019.

In addition to his music career, Mark has built a dedicated fan base as a motivational speaker, reaching over a billion people through his performances, keynotes, and music clinics at companies and organizations like American Express, Microsoft, IBM, and more. He is involved with Create Now!, a non-profit organization that uses creative arts mentoring to transform the lives of troubled children. Mark has also inspired young individuals through seminars at the Ronald McDonald House and events for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the U.K.

As an educator, Mark has taught at the Los Angeles Music Academy and gained recognition as one of the world's most sought-after drum clinicians. He has hosted clinics worldwide and released an instructional DVD titled
“A Day in the Recording Studio: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Recording Great Drum Tracks for Drummers and All Musicians,”
distributed by Hudson Music.

Mark is also an accomplished author with books like
“Conquering Life's Stage Fright”
and his upcoming release,
“The Attitude Equation,”
co-written with Dr. Jim Samuels, exploring the impact of attitude on behavior and consequences. In May 2023, Mark joined the judging panel and coaching team of the music competition show BANDED, where he will personally coach one of the rock outfits.
