Keynote by Paul Artale: The Disability Advantage: How to Recruit & Retain Employees with (Dis)abilities

One out of every five Americans has a (dis)ability, more than 55% of Americans will have a disability before they retire, and the buying power of individuals with (dis)abilities is $1 trillion per year. Despite these facts showing that (dis)ability is part of every workplace and transcends all identities and affinities, most organizations struggle to create work environments that attract, accommodate, and retain persons with (dis)abilities.

During this thought-provoking program, Paul Artale goes beyond the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and helps you understand the personal, social, and medical needs of persons with (dis)abilities in order to attract and retain this extremely underutilized talent pool. Maximum Ability incorporates Paul’s personal experience as an individual with a physical (dis)ability, his training as a special education teacher, current social conditions, and the latest (dis)ability research to create a presentation that is information-packed, practical, and challenges common assumptions.

Your audience will learn to:

  • Understand Disability as a social construct.
  • Define microaggressions and how to combat them.
  • Devise Strategies and considerations for different types of disabilities and conditions.
  • Learn how to create recruitment pipelines to access highly qualified employees with disabilities.
  • Incorporate three strategies that will allow employees with (dis)abilities to become your top performers.
  • Discover best practices in on-boarding employees.
  • Understand universal design principles.
  • Apply practical tips on how to engage in conversations about ability (I know it can be uncomfortable).
  • Understand the key tenets of Disability Identity Theory.

Work-life balance: it feels elusive and unattainable sometimes in our very busy worlds, especially in corporate America……Paul’s workshop: TThe 2-year-old’s Guide to Work-Life Balance”, and everyone left that meeting with more understanding about why we need to achieve work life balance and how we can make it happen right now. Paul is an energetic and captive speaker who engaged us in his speech from the very rst sentence to his very last anecdote. Paul was inspiring, informative, and innovative in his approach, and we are so grateful for him taking out time in his day to share his research and knowledge!
